Swiss‘ new regional subsidiary, Swiss European Air Lines, began operations on 1 November, after it received its operating licence from the Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation. The new airline takes over Swiss’s four Avro RJ85s and fifteen RJ100s as well as it eight remaining Embraer 145s. The latter are scheduled to be withdrawn by next summer, however, while the Avro RJ fleet will grow to 24 with the addition of six former British Airways CitiExpress RJ100s and the withdrawal of one of the airline’s own RJ100s. Swiss European will continue to fly under the Swiss brand, in full Swiss colors, but will have a small “Operated by Swiss European Air Lines” sticker.
