CityJet is negotiating to acquire half of the Avro RJ85s that Mesaba is withdrawing from service. Under the proposed deal, deliveries would begin in August and continue through June 2007. The RJ85s would join CityJet’s fleet of BAe 146-200s and -300s, all of which are operated on behalf of Air France. Although some BAe 146s on short-term leases may be returned as the RJ85s arrive, the bulk of the current 146 fleet would remain. The deal would thus give CityJet the world’s largest 146/RJ fleet, ahead of SN Brussels Airlines (32 aircraft, comprising 6 146-200s, 14 RJ85s, and 12 RJ100s) and Swiss European (24 aircraft, comprising 4 RJ85s and, by summer, 20 RJ100s). In the meantime, the airline is taking delivery of an additional BAe 146-200, former Flybe G-JEAX (msn E2136), on lease from BAE Systems.
