Maintenance cost reductions for the BAe 146 and Avro RJ

BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has received the approval of the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and the US Federal Aviation Authority (FAA) for its Maintenance Optimisation Programme (Systems) for the BAe 146 and Avro RJ. The program revises the maintenance intervals for the 146 and RJ based on an extensive study of in-service experience. Under the program, the interval between ‘A’ checks is increased from 500 hours/cycles to 625 hours/cycles, and that between ‘C’ checks is increased from 4,000 hours/cycles to 5,000 hours/cycles. The change is estimated to reduce Direct Maintenance Cost (DMC) by about US$16 per flight hour on BAe 146s and by about US$7 per flight hour on Avro RJs.
