BAE Systems Regional Aircraft has announced that it has selected Aerostar of Bacău, Romania, as the prime contractor for the re-launched BAe 146QT freighter conversion program. Aerostar will be responsible for assembly of the large freight door, and for manufacture and installation of the E-Class cargo interior kit. Other Romanian aerospace firms will also participate in the program, notably Avione Craiova S.A., who will manufacture the large upward-opening freight door under sub-contract to Aerostar. The first BAe 146 to be converted, former Flybe series 200 G-JEAJ (msn E2099), was flown to Bacău on 13 March. She is expected to be ready in early to mid-2008. She will be marketed by the BAE Systems Regional Aircraft’s Asset Management team.
