Two new jetliners received clearance to operate at London City Airport, threatening the BAe 146/Avro RJ’s dominance at the airport. The 146/RJ accounts for 44% of daily scheduled departures and 62% of daily scheduled seats. Airlines currently operating 146/RJs into London City include BA CityFlyer, CityJet for Air France, Flightline (operating for VLM), CityLine (operating for Lufthansa), Swiss, and Transwede (operating for Air One and SAS). Until recently, the 37-seat Embraer ERJ 135 and 80-seat Fokker 70 were the only other jetliners certified to use the airport, though neither has made more than token appearances there. Now both the 70-seat Embraer 170 and the 100-seat Airbus A318 have been certified to fly the steep approach into the airport.
