MDLR Avro RJ70 in near-collision

An Avro RJ70 operated by Indian airline MDLR Airlines narrowly avoided a collision with a JetLite flight during takeoff from Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on 17 December. The MDLR RJ70 had taken off from runway 28/10, while the JetLite flight had departed runway 27/09 almost simultaneously. The two aircraft had only 900 feet vertical separation when their paths crossed over the village of Dwarka. As a result of this incident and similar ones in previous months, the Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has decreed that one of the two runways be used exclusively for arrivals while the other is used for departures.
