Italian Avro RJ operator Club Air, grounded since late May, will be reborn as Italiatour Airlines. The airline is being acquired by Gruppo Soglia, which has important tourism interests. Plans call for Club Air’s two Avro RJs to be redeployed to Salerno airport, to operate flights in support of the Group’s hotels and resorts under the Italiatour brand. Italiatour was originally born in 1986 as a tour operator jointly owned by Alitalia and several tourism companies. The brand went through a number of owners, evenutally being acquired by Compagnia Italiana Turismo (CIT) in 2003. It was then acquired by Gruppo Soglia when CIT went bankrupt.
