Australia’s Cobham Aviation Services has signed a lease contract with BAE Systems Regional Aircraft for two Avro RJ100s, as well as a long-term lease extension on a BAe 146-300. The RJ100s and the 146-300 will be used for a new A$170 million transport contract with Chevron Australia. They will fly a regular shuttle service between Perth and Barrow Island, in the north-west of Western Australia, to transport oil exploration workers working on the offshore Gorgon project being developed by Chevron. As the project develops, Cobham will dedicate as many as five aircraft to it, including the two RJ100s and three 146s. The first of the two former BA CityFlyer RJ100s will be delivered in early 2010, and the second will follow in 2011.
