Riau Airlines ends Jakarta service

Indonesia’s Riau Airlines ceased services on its Pekanbaru-Jakarta route, which it had been operating with its two Avro RJ100s, on 6 January. The airline opened the route in December 2008, but faced stiff competition from other airlines. In the face of continuing losses it has decided to close the route and concentrate on its services within Sumatra. A new route to Jambi was recently opened, and another to Palembang will open shortly. Riau operates two Avro RJ100s, PK-RAY (msn E3243) and PK-RAZ (msn E3265), both delivered in late 2008.
