Teething problems for BAE Systems cabin air filter

Air Transport Intelligence reports that early customers have encountered problems with the AirManager cabin air treatment system. The AirManager was introduced in September 2009 by BAE Systems and Quest International UK. It uses Close Coupled Field Technology (CCFT), which is a contained and safe electrical field that eliminates smells, and breaks down and destroys airborne pathogens, contaminants, and toxins. According to ATI, Lufthansa CityLine has suspended the installation of AirManager in its RJ85 fleet after seeing an increase in reported cabin ‘smell’ or ‘fume’ events in aircraft fitted with the system. BAE Systems is working with CityLine to resolve the problem.
