Finland’s Blue1 has decided to replace its entire fleet, including its five McDonnell Douglas MD-90s and seven Avro RJ85s, with 120-seat Boeing 717s beginning in the fall. The 164-seat MD-90s, which have proved too large for the airline’s routes, will be the first to be replaced. Two RJ85s on lease from CityJet will also be returned by the end of the year. The airline’s remaining RJ85s will then follow, as additional 717s are acquired. As part of the move, Blue1 is also introducing a new color scheme, with different designs on each aircraft; however, it is unlikely that any of the RJ85s will ever wear one of the new designs.
