CityJet began service on a new route London City Airport to Firenze, linking two city-center airports. Service officially began on 10 January, but several services had already been flown during the Christmas holiday season. On January 19, a formal ceremony was held to mark the new route, with Avro RJ85 EI-RJU (msn E2367) being greeted with a water cannon salute. During the ceremony, EI-RJU was officially named Amerigo Vespucci, after the Florentine explorer. The route is served with a daily roundtrip except on Saturdays; it is the longest route from London City.
