BAE Systems ends speculative BAe 146QT conversions

BAE Systems has decided not to do any more speculative conversions of BAe 146s to QT freighters. The economic crisis has hit the freight market badly, substantially reducing demand for regional freighters. Although one series 300QT was placed with Cobham Aviation Services in 2010, a series 200QT converted in 2008 remains unsold. At the same time, BAE Systems has found it less difficult than anticipated to place passenger aircraft. As a result, future conversions will only be made against firm orders. The QT conversion program was relaunched in 2007, with conversions being undertaken by Aerostar in Bacău, Romania.
