Another Comorean airline opts for a BAe 146

Moroni-based Inter Iles Air has leased BAe 146-300 ZS-SMO (msn E3169) from Fair Aviation. The 146 was ferried to Dzaoudzi airport on August 3 and started services soon thereafter. She is initially being used on inter-island flights serving Moroni, Anjouan, Pemba, and Nosy Bé. Eventually, the airline plans to begin services to Tanzania, Kenya, Mauritius, Madagascar, and the Seychelles. ZS-SMO had previously been on lease to Comores Aviation International, replacing a series 200 that had been used earlier. The series 300 proved too large for Comores Aviation, however, and they replaced her with a Fokker F28 leased from AirQuarius in May. She represents a considerable step up for Inter Iles, which had only operated Cessna 207s and 404s since it was established in 2008.
Additional details on BAe 146 operations in the Comores would be extremely welcome. Please contact the editor.
