The Avro RJ family has been awarded full transport category Type Certification from Transport Canada. The earlier BAe 146 family has long been certificated in Canada, and has been operated by numerous airlines, but the improved Avro RJ models had never been submitted for certification due to a lack of customers at that time. With growing interest in Avro RJs in Canada, Falko Regional Aircraft undertook to obtain type certification. Falko will now turn to unpaved runways trials. “This will allow Canadian Avro RJ operators to replicate the successful remote operations capability already established in Australia, Africa and Asia,” said Stuart Begg, Falko’s VP Sales and Marketing. Should there be interest, Falko is also considering developing a combi version. North Cariboo Airways has already indicated its intention to replace its current BAe 146-200 with a pair of Avro RJ100s once the type was certificated.
