Nusantara Air Charter‘s BAe 146-200QT PK-JKC (msn E2113) was destroyed in a fire at Wamena airport, on Papua, on 8 May. The 146, which was operating a charter for PT Walesi Air, had flown in from Jayapura’s Sentani Airport with a load of diesel fuel. The fire started when a drum of diesel that was being unloaded from the 146 with a forklift fell and broke open. The resulting fire quickly engulfed the aircraft, eventually weakening the main spar to the point that the wings collapsed to the ground. It took two hours to extinguish the fire. Fortunately there were no fatalities, but First Officer Vincensius Ryan Perkasa, who had been still on board, suffered sprains when he jumped from the cabin to escape the fire, and a ground worker helping to fight the fire suffered minor burns.
