Cobham Aviation‘s Avro RJ100 VH-NJI (msn E3265) suffered an engine fire while departing from Perth on 29 April. She was headed to Barrow Island on flight NC1994, with 92 passengers and crew on board, on a fly-in, fly-out charter. During climb-out, a loud bang came from the number 2 engine, followed by flames. The crew levelled off, shut down the engine, and extinguished the fire. They then returned to Perth, were they landed safely. The incident was filmed by a passenger on board, and also photographed from the ground.
