Air Madagascar has decided to lease two Avro RJ85s to replace two Boeing 737-300s whose leases are expiring at the end of the year. The announcement was made by Air Madagascar Director General, Haja Raelison. The Malagasy national airline deemed the RJ85s better suited to serve many of the island’s airports, which are too small for 737s. Indeed, the RJ85 would allow several routes that had been abandoned to be re-opened. Negotiations are underway with potential lessors. The two aircraft would be leased initially for two years, with an option to renew.
