BVI Airways purchases first Avro RJ100

BVI Airways has purchased Avro RJ100 VP-LOS (msn E3282 ex HB-IXQ) from lessor Tronos, for use on its planned non-stop service between Miami International Airport and Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport (EIS) on Beef Island, Tortola, in the British Virgin Islands. Initial plans had called for Avro RJ85s to be used, but the availability of RJ100s led the airline to opt for the larger aircraft. BVI Airways is also negotiating for a second aircraft, and possibly a third. VP-LOS, a former Swiss aircraft, is currently at Tronos’ base in Summerside, PEI, being prepared for BVI Airways. She will be configured with 12 Premier Class and 74 economy class seats. “This plane marks a major milestone in preparing BVIA for the commencement of this entirely unprecedented service between the United States and the BVI,” said Jerry Willoughby, the airline’s CEO. “The AVRO RJ is the perfect answer to the shorter runway at EIS. The plane was designed to land on shorter runways such the London City Airport where the runway length is also constrained by the geography. It’s well-known as being a quiet plane and has a proven track record of safety and reliability.”
