Ireland’s ASL Aviation Group is planning to shut down its ASL Airlines Spain subsidiary, which operates eight BAe 146-300QTs on behalf of FedEx. The move is part of a consolidation of the Group’s operations, which has already seen its ASL Airlines Switzerland subsidiary shut down, and its ATR72 freighters transfered to the Irish operation. Unlike the ATR72s, however, ASL is planning on parking the 146QTs, considering that they “do not meet the range or capacity requirements of the emerging market ASL is configuring its European freighter fleet to serve.” This is not surprising, as ASL had already indicated it wished to dispose of the 146QTs. No date has been announced for ASL Airlines Spain’s closure.
