CityJet‘s contract to operate several flights on behalf of KLM Cityhopper has come to an end. The contract initially called for CityJet to operate two Avro RJ85s on KLM Cityhopper routes to London City and to other European destinations. This was reduced to a single aircraft as KLM Cityhopper’s own Embraer ERJ 190s took over the London City flights in late 2017 — although CityJet RJ85s still occasionally covered the London City flights as needed. A CityJet RJ85 continued to serve a number of routes, concentrating on Genova and Praha at the end. Individual CityJet RJ85s usually operated for KLM Cityhopper for about a week before returning to Dublin and being replaced by one of their sisterships. RJ85 EI-RJD (msn E2334) operated the last flight on behalf of KLM Cityhopper, KL1563/1564 from Amsterdam to Genova and back, on 23 March, then ferried back to Dublin as KL933 the following day. The end of the KLM contract coincided with CityJet’s resumption of its own services from London City to Firenze after a winter hiatus. The airline once served Firenze regularly on behalf of Air France. When CityJet’s Air France contract was reduced, it kept a seasonal service from London City. This year, Avro RJ85 EI-RJN (msn E2351) operated the first service, WX281/280 on 25 March.
