CityJet Avro RJ85 EI-RJT at London City in July (Mike Moodie)
CityJet will lease two of its Avro RJ85s to Aer Lingus and operate them on its behalf between Dublin and London City beginning on 28 October. Aer Lingus will take over CityJet’s existing service between the two cities, operating six daily round trips on weekdays. Existing reservations will be transferred to Aer Lingus. The move will complete CityJet’s move away from a model of operating its own routes to providing capacity to other airlines. CityJet also operates RJ85s for Air France, Sukhoi SSJ100s for Brussels Airlines, and CRJ-900s for SAS; it is planning to merge with Spain’s Air Nostrum, which has a similar business model. CityJet began services with the Dublin-London City route, in January 1994, at that time operating as a Virgin franchise with two BAe 146-200s. Jota is currently operating an RJ85 on CityJet’s behalf between Dublin and London City. Aer Lingus once operated BAe 146s, but retired the type in 2003.
