Australia’s Pionair has put into service the first of three BAe 146-300QTs it has acquired from Germany’s WDL Aviation. BAe 146-300QT VH-SAJ (msn E3150 ex D-AJAM) was pressed into service to operate for QANTAS Freight, which was short of capacity after having parked four of its Boeing 737 Freighters because of potential defective components. VH-SAJ had arrived in Australia in late September, still as D-AJAM. She was registered in Australia on 24 October, and then flew test flights on 6 and 15 November. On 16 December, she positioned to Melbourne, and then operated QF7452 to Adelaide the following day. Pionair already operates several 146QTs on behalf of Virgin Australia Cargo. The other two ex-WDL 146QT are still in Germany, being prepared for their ferry flights to Australia.
