Conversion of first new BAe 146 Freighter progresses

E2099 being stripped out

All passenger equipment and services are being stripped out from E2099’s fuselage to bring it back to a clean hull (BAE Systems)

Conversion of the first BAe 146 for the re-launched BAe 146QT (Quiet Trader) freighter program is proceeding on schedule. The prime contractor, Aerostar, has received EASA Part 135 approval for the BAe 146, allowing work to begin. The first converted aircraft, former Flybe Series 200 G-JEAJ (msn E2099), is at Aerostar’s facilities in Bacău, Romania, having her interior stripped out to bring her back to a clean hull, ready to start the conversion process. At the same time, subcontractor Avioane Craiova has established a manufacturing cell with two jigs for the Large Freight Door. Avioane Craiova expects to deliver three sets of kits of parts for QTs to Aerostar by February. Conversion of E2099 is expected to be completed in early to mid-2008.
