Kiwijet again postpones start

New Zealand start-up Kiwijet has once again postponed the start of operations. Last September the airline had announced plans to lease four Avro RJ100s from BAE Systems for low-fare operations from Christchurch, with a November start. By October, the beginning of operations had been pushed back to “late 2007.” The addition of two 146-200QT freighters for a cargo operation was also mooted at that time. In light of the global economic slowdown, rising fuel costs, difficulties in securing qualified staff, and competitive developments in New Zealand, Kiwijet has now opted for “wait and see” approach to the development of domestic operations.
