South Africa’s Competition Commission has barred Airlink from merging with Safair. The two airlines had announced their intention to merge into a single company, while retaining their separate identities, in November 2017. However, the Competition Commission found that this would reduce competition. Airlink and Safari intend to appeal the decision to the Competition Tribunal. Airlink currently operates eight Avro RJ85s. It has been gradually drawing down its RJ85 fleet as it takes delivery of Embraer E-Jets.
